Twenty Two is a photobook that documents the 22 houses lived in by my grandmother, Janet Cutting, from her marriage at age 21 to her last move at age 81. The book serves as a visual biography, charting a life of constant movement shaped by her husband's career as an RAF pilot. The project combines his archival photography with images captured by various family members – including Janet herself – after their separation. The final chapter of this visual history, the twenty-second house, was photographed by myself, bringing the poignant narrative of a life defined by physical spaces to a close. The book itself is a tactile tribute: hardback bound in a pink cloth—her favourite colour—with the dates 1960–2019 debossed in silver on the front cover, commemorating the time period in which the moves took place.
