Contemporary Jane rebrands Jane Austen’s novels to highlight often overlooked themes beyond the romance for which she is so well known, such as the lowly status of women, the effects of rural poverty, the evils of slavery, the activities of the militia, and the corruption of the church. The aim is to challenge current book cover representations and encourage a wider audience to discover the depth of her social commentary.
By exploring a bold & vibrant colour palette combined with abstract distorted patterns, the rebranding seeks to visually communicate the often-unseen layers of social critique within Austen's novels.
